Programs: The global learners program mentors support middle school students through activities designed to promote english languageacquisition, build social and emotional skills, and understand and complete schoolwork. Global learners programming takes place primarily after-school and involves group mentoring on three campuses in the houston independent school district, though it can also take place in-school and involve one on one mentoring. Sessions encourage understanding and friendship through group activities and field trips to different sites in the city. The program assists participants in achieving a smoother transition to their new home and new school and a greater understanding of american culture, more positive attitudes towards school, increased school competence, confidence and engagement. The summer global learners program brings together middle school students from all of pair's after-school learners programs for activity-based projects, recreating, and field trips, along with reaching activities that limit summer learning loss.
in global leaders, high school students explore opportunities for their future and develop the leadership and life skills necessary to attain higher education and employment. Global leaders programming takes place primarily after-school and involves group mentoring, college exploration and community service projects. Global leaders goals are to help refugee youth develop more positive opinions of school, develop more positive relationships with peers and adults, increase educational aspirations and achieve academic success.
global scholars provides 1-1 mentoring for refugee youth preparing for high school gradution and post-secondary education. Global scholars provides mentors who assist students as they explore opportunities for their future and develop the employment and leadership skills necessary to attain higher education and employment. Mentors encourage youth to prepare for their next step in their lives by imparting knowledge and advise on completing applications for higher education and training, interviewing for jobs, and building a resume. Through the program, students increase their educational aspirations and their understanding of their post-high school opportunities. In the long term, students graduate from high school with plans to attend higher education or training.
pair provided three weeks of summer camp to high school students via partnerships with other community organizations. Pair youth attended pangea leadership summit a stem-focused camp hosted at rice university, and two weeks of project grad programs. While program activities were not facilitated by pair program staff, pair provided registration, transportation, and mentoring support during these co-sponsored programs.
