Mission: To secure funding and other donations to support programs of the west florida regional planning council, emphasizing but not limited to environmental and other types of education and planning.
Programs: The noaa watershed vanguard for education (waves) program is designed to offer locally relevant environmental education opportunities to students,as well as offering professional development for educators. The main objectives are for students to gain an overall understanding of the watershed concept and understand how actions on the local level can affect overall water quality. The noaa waves program reaches approximately 200 students in ten schools in two counties.
our annual emerald coast transportation symposium event provided a forum for leadership in transportation to explore cross-organization collaboration, develop lasting local and regional partnerships, share best practices, and gave innovators a platform to inspire others in improving transportation in northwest florida. There were over 100 attendees.
brownfield program: the brownfield program facilitates redevelopment and job creation by empowering communities, local governments, and other stakeholders to work together to assess, clean up, and reuse properties that may have been previously impacted by pollutants. Bay day: a program of barc, the bay area resource council, escambia county bay day is annual event in which 5th grade students from escambia county are invited to participate in an interactive event staffed by environmental science professionals with the goal of increasing student awareness and content knowledge about critical environmental issues, such as wetlands, health concerns, water quality, recycling, sea grass planting, environmental engineering, careers, and many more.
