Mission: The Partnership for Children of Johnston County, incorporated in 1997, administers Smart Start funds from the state legislature to support programs to benefit children age 0-5 and their families, is a catalyst for bringing different groups together for the sake of the children, educates the community on the critical needs of young children and helps develop solutions. Smart Start, launched by Governor Hunt in 1993, is a comprehensive public-private initiative to help all North Carolina children enter school healthy, motivated and ready to succeed by providing early childhood education, health care, and family support needed during the most critical developmental years.
Programs: The Partnership for Children of Johnston County is an early childhood advocacy and funding agency that serves the children, families, and early childhood community of Johnston County, NC through educating the public about the needs of young children and funding grants and projects that address those needs. The Johnston County Partnership for Children administers public Smart Start funds in Johnston County through contracting with existing agencies and organizations as well as administering a limited number of in-house activities. The agency is a public private initiative that works with human service agency and business representatives from a broad spectrum to address the needs, existing resources, and develop strategies to meet the unmet needs.
