Mission: Mission and Vision: PRHDR’s mission is to offer transformative learning opportunities for future healthcare leaders in Maine and abroad by working closely with under-served communities to improve health in the Dominican Republic. Building bridges. Fostering leadership. Changing lives. The organization’s vision is to provide powerful global health experiences for students and volunteers, and improved quality of life in the Dominican communities the organization serves.
Results: Impact: More than 1,000 nursing students and medical and non-medical volunteers have participated in this program. Many of them state that the initiative has changed their lives, making them better nurses and had a profound impact on their career choices.
Target demographics: patients in these communities have ongoing access to high-quality healthcare, provide an opportunity for nursing students to gain their first overseas opportunity
Direct beneficiaries per year: 100 nursing students and other medical and non-medical volunteers, 1,200 patients
Geographic areas served: isolated communities in the Dominican Republic
Programs: medical clinics in 20 isolated, rural communities
