Mission: The mission of pnca is to prepare students for a life of creative practice. The intent is to transform students into knowledgeable, articulate, practicing artists and designers with the ability to significantly contribute in original ways to the ongoing dialogue in art that shapes our culture.
Programs: Bachelor of fine arts program (bfa) degree prepares students for a life of creative practice. The college's curriculum focuses on an intensive studio experience stressing students' personal development and building technical competence. Coursework is supplemented with liberal arts classes that guide and strengthen students' creative expression by cultivating their ability to think critically, while increasing the range of their knowledge of history and understanding of cultural traditions.
masters programs:master of fine arts program - the college offers three two-year masters in fine arts (mfa) programs (visual studies, collaborative design, and applied craft and design) and offers one multi-year low residency visual studies program. All four programs are 60 credit programs that are multi-disciplinary and mentor based. The structure complements the college's educational philosophy of supporting independent inquiry and encouraging cross-disciplinary dialogue. The students benefit from a dynamic national and international roster of visiting artists and designers. The mfa in applied craft and design is offered in collaboration with the oregon college of art and craft. The low residency program allows part-time students to matriculate and obtain their degree over a longer period, but includes coursework in the summer. Master of arts program - during the year ended june 30, 2016, the college offered one twelve-month masters in arts program, critical theory and creative research. This program was an accelerated (45 credit), seminar-based program that prepared students for opportunities at the intersection of art, theory, and research.
continuing education program - the continuing education program provides continuing education and outreach opportunities for the college. Offering evening and weekend courses in art and design for ages four through senior citizen, the continuing education program makes high-quality art education available to the public of portland and surrounding areas.
academic services - certain support services are an integral part of the college's mission of instruction but are not charged directly to these primary programs. These include the library, gallery, computer arts center, academic development, academic computing support, course and curriculum development, student housing, and academic administration.
