Programs: Erosion prevention projects erosion prevention projects. Seven major projects took place in four major watersheds within humboldt county. Projects were located on both private and public lands. The projects involved the decommissioning or de-construction of abandoned roads that were identified through field inventories as at high risk to produce major future sediment delivery to stream channels. The purpose of these projects is to improve aquatic habitat conditions for endangered salmon and other species. The work requires extensive use of heavy earth moving equipment, specialized geological oversight and labor crews for mulching and tree planting. Over 85% of the expenses were for contracted services. The remaining expenses included oversight by a registered geologist (consultant), project management and permitting expenses.
