Third Millennium Alliance has done incredibly good job expanding their conservation mission of protecting the threatened forests of coastal Ecuador via their Jama-Coaque Reserve. Their hard work, wise use of revenue, and community involvement ensure they will continue to act as one of the most successful conservation organizations working in coastal Ecuador.

I lead a study abroad program at Texas State University in the Department of Biology and conduct research at the Jama-Coaque Reserve that is owned and managed by Third Millennium Alliance. The support that TMA provides for our study abroad program is exceptional and the research myself and colleagues are able to do at the Reserve is too. The work that TMA is doing to protect and increase awareness of western Ecuador forests is unrivaled. Looking forward to working with them to preserve this important source of biodiversity for years to come.

I interned with TMA for 6 months. Over the years TMA has worked tirelessly to preserve the critically endangered coastal rainforest of Ecuador. Bit by bit, they have bought parcels of land to create a substantial protected area where scientists and volunteers can come to study and experience tropical fieldwork, permaculture and agro-forestry. TMA is set up on a steep hill overlooking the coast requiring a gruelling hour hike which, in the wet season, will leave you caked head to toe in thick sticky mud! Your effort is paid back ten fold with hundreds of bird species, alien looking insects, frogs, snakes and butterflies to feast your eyes and ears on, not to mention the troops of howler monkeys which become your 5:45am alarm clock. I had an unforgettable time at this incredibly special place and I am always dreaming up plans to return.

I was fortunate enough to be able to volunteer and help maintain the extensive trail system that goes through jungle filled with myriad life forms and waterfalls. The best part is all the wild habitat they are conserving. Simply awesome.

Everyone is so passionate and knowledgeable about the conservation taking place here in Ecuador! Visiting their property was truly amazing. You are able to immerse yourself in the forest and see wildlife you would not see almost anywhere else. This is only possible because of all their hard work towards conservation.

I was an intern in the biological sciences internship at Third Millennium Alliance in 2015. I absolutely love this organization because it introduced me to the amazing biodiversity of the Ecuadorian coastal rainforest. I never new I could learn so much in two months! TMA is a small organization that strives to protect the last remnants of primary rainforest in western Ecuador. The people there are warm, down-to-earth and passionate about conservation. If anyone wants to be an active part of the conservation movement, becoming part of the TMA crew (as a student, as a volunteer, as a donor, or as a staff member) is a great way to do that!

I have never encountered a nonprofit with so much heart and dedication. The folks at Third Millennium Alliance care deeply about holistic conservation, including the science, the community, and the well-being of people and wildlife. They pour everything they have into their projects, even when they are understaffed and seem to have limited resources. Imagine what they could do with more support!

TMA is doing incredibly important work trying to help conserve the biodiversity of Ecuador. Their ability and willingness to teach students from study abroad groups about the work they’re doing furthers the fight against deforestation. Help them fight the good fight!

The TMA alliance reserve is a hub of science, a magnificent learning experience, and even a fresh breath of air from what you may be used to. Leaving the "comforts" of everyday life: wifi, car, ect. I soon realized that the tranquil setting, wonderful company, and fascinatingwork put me in a state of mind a hundred fold happier than I had ever been. End the day reading books, experimenting cooking healthy meals for each other, and playing instruments. The reserve forces you out of bad habits and into a healtly lifestyle, while at the same times giving you professional experience that looks stellar on any resume. Here I was able to hold hundreds of tropical songbirds and feel the heartbeat of a hummingbird of the most vibrant colors in my hands.
Nowhere will you find an experience quiet like this, with a stellar price that I found to be a steal. Travel weekends and explore surrounding areas for only a few dollars, and you'll find yourself surfing, dining with amazing meals, swimming with sea turtles. Improve your Spanish, loose weight unintentionally. This place truly has it all.

I visited Jama-Coaque Reserve this summer as a portion of my study abroad program. As a non-profit, TMA has been doing a wonderful job to try and conserve and reforest the unique and vital habitat that the reserve sits in. They also employ and engage the local community, which is an important part of addressing the concerns in this area.

I highly recommend TMA to anyone interested in conservation- especially in the tropics.

I was a volunteer intern with Third Millennium Alliance in the summer of 2014, and had an absolutely wonderful experience! This organization does great work protecting some of the last vestiges of coastal rain forest, while working closely with communities and supporting reforestation efforts. They offer great internships for conservation and sustainable agriculture, and their dynamic approach is constantly evolving with the influx of diverse interns and coordinators. I would definitely return!

I spent two months in the Jama-Coaque Reserve with Third Millennium Alliance as a biological research intern and absolutely LOVED the experience. I picked the organization because it was small and had ambitious (but promising) plans. During my short stay on the reserve TMA acquired another section to add to the protected area, which was very exciting. It is very inspiring to see how such a small number of people can make such a big difference in the world and I felt privileged to have the opportunity to accompany them on their mission.

I highly recommend TMA to conservation & nature enthusiasts who want to be part of active conservation work. You have to be willing to live rustic - for me, living in the rainforest was actually one of the highlights!

I've worked with TMA since the very beginning when they started Jama Coaque Reserve. The reserve is an incredibly vital link between forest fragments, and it has been managed wonderfully by the organization. TMA is made up of a great bunch of people that I'm glad to have worked with.

Ever since I was a kid the rain-forest has attracted me. Third Millennium Alliance's internship allowed me to live for a month entirely in a tropical forest! One with noisy monkeys, elegant ocelots and margays, and a smorgasbord of surprises and wildlife. Living off the grid in the picturesque bamboo house was liberating. I never thought I could be so happy with so little fluff. The bamboo house has the best book collection ever. It was great to spend so much time with the other interns who quickly became great friends. The intern-coordinators were simply inspirational. My life a year later is still very influenced by them. The living conditions of the tropical forest aren't for everyone but I wouldn't trade my experience with TMA for anything. It is not every day you get to live your childhood fantasy.
