Gina and I have been friends for twenty years. She was there for me when my 13 year old son died from cancer. Part of owie comes from kyle's story. Gina has more than a heart of gold, she is gold!! What she has developed for hospitalized children is amazing. She has sacrificed so much and given her all to make Owie a loving lasting reminder of good in this world.

It was my honor to meet Gina Gippner Woods just over 9 years ago at an event which helped to showcase our Snowball Express mission for the children of our fallen. She is one of the warmest most sincere individuals I have ever met. She took it upon herself to hand make 5 quilts showcasing handprints of some of our heroes children which we were able to present to our major sponsors including Oakley Corporation. Her efforts to bring joy and comfort to sick and ailing children through her work with OwieBowWowie is priceless and speaks volumes to her character and passion. I am proud to call her friend. I have known Gina Woods and Owie for three years. I met them in advance of a life changing event for me. Gina gifted an Owie to me which provided comfort at a time of tremendous loss. In the years since our meeting, I knew that Owie provided many ways to bring comfort. Our organization, Uncaged Paws has joined with Owie BowWowie to bring awareness to the plight of shelter animals. In our Save A Dog - Give A Dog program for each shelter pet that is saved a contribution is made to provide a hospitalized child with their own FUR-iend of Owie. With 8 million companion animals entering animal shelters each year, Owie and Uncaged Paws are working together with rescues across the country who provide PAWsitive outcomes, a win for shelter pets and children. Woof it up Owie!

We all know a stay in the hospital can be frightening. As a grandmother of a toddler who needed an extended stay in the hospital, we found it extremely important to try to create an atmosphere that was friendly and non-intimidating for our precious guy. OwieBowWowie helps to do just that. Not every child has the joy of a family standing by his or her side during a hospitalization. Smiles can be far and few between. Imagine the joy of a cuddly stuffed animal waiting just for you when you least expect it! The tenacious love and dedicated efforts behind OwieBowWowie create magical moments for children in pain. Kudos to this foundation!

I have been with Gina and OwieBowWowie since he first arrived one day in a Big Brown Van. I have watched Gina dedicate and sacrifice to be able to get Owie to as many little one's who need him in their lives. I have watched over the years the lives that Owie has touched... not just the children who have recieved a new friend when they needed one... but the parents who sometimes see a smile on their child's face that haven't had a reason to smile in awhile. Owie is there in the dark of night when sometimes no one else is. Owie lives only to help little ones who need a friend in a big way... he lives to "Comfort Hurts and Hearts" I wish there was a way to be able to bring an OwieBowWowie into the life a every little one who needs one. Thanks Gina and Owie for touching the lives of so many little ones.

When my son came home after major brain surgery, to reduce a tumor in his brain stem, and Owie dog was there waiting for him! Seeing Owie gave our 16 month old baby his first smile after a month in the hospital recovering. I cannot express the joy in our hearts we felt that day, it was a ray of pure sunshine!

Gina Woods and her OwieBowWowie creation are both invaluable assets to the non profit community and people in need of comfort. I am a proud supporter of OwieBowWowie and his power to help heal. It has been a privilege to find ways to incorporate OwieBowWowie into the work our organization does with rescue animal organizations. Owie has inspired lots of healing at both ends of the leash. Gina's social media messages also provide an amazing source of inspiration, perspective and appreciation that touches people where and when it is most needed. Heartfelt gratitude to Gina for the countless ways she and Owie contribute towards making the world a better place for the rest of us. -Beth Pattee Co-Founder/CEO WhatCanWe.org

When I was approached to help with some design needs for a "project" to help hospitalized children, I never realized how much of an impact this project would make. Owie Bow Wowie is a stuffed toy, true... but he really does have a heart! When I hear of the children (and adults) who have been recipients of this wonderful little fuzzball, and the way he has helped them weather some horrific storms in their lives, it makes me proud to be associated with this organization. Everyone deserves to feel loved and not alone, and Owie helps them to feel comforted in a very special way.

I have known about OwieBowWowie for several years and have thought extremely highly about the mission and the person(s) behind this fabulous little pup. I am all about children and want to do everything I possibly can to help youngsters, wherever they are and under whatever circumstances. A year ago, while traveling overseas to work with another non-profit in a kids-related mission, I took several Owie pups along, these to share with some of those children. Their hearts burst with joy at the sight.... What could be a better feeling for a parent to see the joy in their child's eyes, or in the eyes of another's child. PRICELESS, as is the mission to share Owie with hospitalized children.

Gina Gippner-Woods makes the most amazing little dogs. She sends, or gives, them to children that are facing medical problems. I have known her to drive for several hours to deliver an Owie Bow Wowie to a child in serious medical condition.
I have been a prayer warrior for her for two years. I have had the privilege of seeing the comfort Owie brings to these precious children.
i know she makes these sweet treasures with love and prayers. She even sends some out with no money being received by her.

I walked into a store because I was attracted by the merchandise in the window and found out that it was a non-profit. Whenever an item was bought a adorable stuffed animal was given to a child in a hospital. I stayed and bought a present for a dear friend's grandchild. I told Gina about my da.ughter who has MS, she's 37 and in a wheel chair. In addition to the Owie Bowie that' was sent to the hospital, Gina gave me one for my daughter. It was so kind and although my daughter is an adult it was very motivating for her to know someone who didn't even know her cared..

OwieBowWowie is the dogchild of creator Gina Woods and what a blessing they both are to the world. With 22 million families touched with a critically ill child, OwieBowWowie is often the brightest part of the child's day. OwieBowWowie is a comfort toy, a FURiend, a confidante, and cuddle bunny and a soft place to land when tubes, and needles and oxygen masks become the order of the day.
Kids aren't meant to be in hospitals, but sometimes that is the reality of their Life.
The Love , the comfort and the SMILES that OwieBowWowie brings to each child and their families is priceless. There is no better charity than OwieBowWowie. He makes us all feel like kids when we see him and want him if we don't have one.
Gina Woods is a blessing and so is her Owie!

Several years ago I crossed paths with Gina. Her personal story and her tenacity both in her own life and her life helping others was nothing short of humbling. It was obvious that her own personal experiences had a profound affect on her life and her future.

To think that something as simple as a stuffed doggie could lift the spirits of a cancer patient in such a profound way. Her faith and her ambition have changed lives......saved lives, and offered happiness in this simple stuffed animal. To realize that loneliness can be eliminated or at least lessened with a new companion, a 'OwieBowWowie' was all it took to set Gina on a path to reach as many children as she could, and she has done just that. She has touched a myriad of lives, the children and their families. She is a blessing to all who know her and come in contact with her. May God continue to bless her in this godly endeavor.

When a child is suffering in the hospital and someone gives them a puppy who has owies like they do, you can't comprehend the good that does. It gives them a reason to smile, a companion and a connection. Anyone looking to donate to a cause this is it. Gina is a woman of Faith and trust worthy your donations go directly to the children. OwieBowWowie is on a mission of love and compassion. As a former veterinarian I am aware of the beneficial effects of pets for kids development, for health and well-being. Owie is the next best thing to owning a pet - always faithful, loyal, loving, caring, non-judgmental, always there.

My prayer is that more would capture the vision and mission of Owie that he will be an ambassador and healer for kids around the world.

By chance a friend say a small article from a local chamber newsletter NO Picture just a small article about a local non profit. .I googled Owie Bow Wowie and fell in love with the idea, concept and meaning of Owie. I sent an email to Owie and I got a call and a reply. I am a proud Owie Comforteer.
I have started sharing Owie with the Bark for Life events I am chairing which is now a branch of Owie Bark For Life's Owies. I have given Owies to those who need comfort a friend who lost her puppy in PA, a friend going thru a depression, a friend who will be having her breast removed and is only 32. My nieces just because I love them. A friend going thru Chemo treatments and a friend who just needed a little smile to make her feel better. Owie is just an amazing little dog he makes you smile just seeing him. but to have him to hold cuddle or just be by you is comfort and love that speaks to your heart and soul.
But for a child in the hospital Owie is a constant friend companion who is there for a child or adult in the hospital.
Owie is a constant travel companion taking him and sharing him and having photo ops to share with the Owie community at Where's Owie?
The best is seeing a child with an Owie and knowing Owie is helping that child get thru whatever life may have thrown there way.
Thank you Gina for Creating this special dog that has a HUGE Message and a HUGE meaning to so many. It would be great to see Owie at Every Hospital for every child or person That is in need of an Owie Bow Wowie...

It all started with an invitation to an online home business party to raise money for a Marine family stationed in Hawaii. The wife was expecting their third baby. The ordeals, scares, anxiousness, and fears were mounting daily. Due to some unexpected difficulty with the developing baby, Mom was sent to San Diego's Naval Hospital. She was alone, separated from her husband and sons as well as extended family. I thought, how can we help her? We sent care packages, love notes... and then along came Owie! He and his blanket became a source of comfort to the entire family! I will let Mom tell her story should she choose to do so. But!! If you know Gina, my friend and my Cali Sis, not only did Owie come into the picture, but all the love that Owie could hold in his heart! God bless you, Gina and our wonderful Owie! MamaLinda

I have known Gina, the Director, for a number of years. She has always been a caring person, wanting to help others and when she founded OwieBowWowie, she found her niche. She started out by giving stuffed dogs to children who were undergoing treatment for serious illness, as a friend and comforter. Then she started making them available to the general public. I bought one Owie to give to an adult friend who was undergoing chemo and radiation for breast cancer. I just recently bought a 'Little Owie' to give to another friend who works for the child development lab at the University of Illinois and teaches a class on working with hospitalized children. I got the dog before I sent the check. Her fund raising ideas are great, her Facebook posts are always amusing and funny. OwieBowWowie will go anywhere and do anything to bring help and comfort to those who need it.

Our son received an OwieBowWowie in 2011 when he was Hospitalized. We had already been in and out of the ER and he was then hospitalized for a period of several days. Blood draws, repositioning IVs and being put through x-rays and ultra sounds had taken their toll. He had been hospitalized before and he although he knew the drill, he was frustrated cause we couldn't make him feel better. I remember when they gave him his Owie. He smiled(which was welcomed since all he had been doing was sleeping). He played with him and insisted we swaddle him so he could hold him tight. The child specialist used Owie to help him cope when the IVs and blood draws were done and we were able to pack up Owie and take our son home...... End of story right??? Wrong.... He was rehospitalized less then 24 hrs later....Owie provided so much comfort then and he still does. We have been back to the ER several times since, admitted at least twice since he got Owie and has gone through my son's second scope of his GI tract. And Owie is ALWAYS THERE- PROVIDING COMFORT AND A QUIET INNER STRENGTH. He is so much more then a simple teddy bear or a toy..... my son draws courage from him and what he stands for. To try to tell a child-especially your child - why they have to go through all those tests, pokes, tape removal, blood draws and to see how scared they are.... and then to see them trying to be brave while holding Owie as they go through this- It helps us as parents too. It comforts us knowing that our child is getting that inner strength from a little doggie that has owies too... When my child is dreading a doc's appointment or another ER trip- Owie is always with us.

My daughter is a Child Life Specialist at a hospital were Owie is a great help in soothing and calming children who are going through difficult medical situations. She is so grateful and lucky to have Owie to help her help her kids. Having volunteered in the PICU of our local children's hospital, I know that sometimes it's the little things that can really turn a child around. Even if it just puts a smile on their face when they see that Owie is bandaged up like they are, that positive energy helps in their recovery. I wish every children's hospital had OwieBowWowie available to them.

If you have ever seen an OwieBowWowie, or saw what this little dog did for children you would understand how amazing this foundation is. I have seen how this little dog has warmed peoples hearts, and has put a smile on each child's face that has been given this gift of a friend. If you have ever been sick a day in your life you know it's not something you want to go through alone, and this foundation supports just that. The simplicity of comfort is not something we all have, but when you can give a child the comfort of knowing they are not alone how do you not support that? They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but when you see a photo of a child being given the gift of this toy the image itself is speechless. The gift is giving a child something so much more than just a toy. This is such an amazing foundation.

OwieBowWowie is a very unique non-profit endeavor. It is the result of the creative mind of its inventor, Gina Woods. A creative mind that puts giving a simple plush OwieBowWowie toy to sick children in a hospital before anything else. I am amazed at Gina's commitment and totally impressed with the medicinal value of these gifts to the children, who are the recipients. The world needs lots more people with the heart to build these lovable pets and donate them to childrens' hospitals, wherever they might be. I hope through the efforts of this program, that Owie and Gina become household names that we will get to know even better. Thanks for this opportunity to tell your readers about this very special Non-profit. Harry Croner, SCORE Counselor

My daughter received an Owie before she had surgery at 9 mo. She obviously didn't really understand what was going on but Owie is still one of her favorite animals. We also have a family friend whose niece is currently battling neuroblastoma. She received an Owie before heading to the hospital for her final chemo followed by her bone marrow transplant. She was so excited when she saw that Owie was bandaged up just like her. Anything you can do to put a smile on a sick child's face is worth it.

I would like to share a story with you about a patient who once received an OwieBowWowie while here at Northridge. Imagine you are an 8 year old girl who wakes up one morning and is not feeling well. Your throat is hurting and it is very hard for you to swallow. You tell your mom you are not feeling good and your mother takes your temperature and not only is your throat bothering you but you have a fever as well. So your mom calls your pediatrician and the next thing you know you are on your way to the doctors’ office, even though you tell your mom you do not want to go. Shortly, after arriving at the pediatricians’ office they tell you and your mom that you need to go to the hospital to receive IV antibiotics. Again, remember not only did you NOT want to go to the doctor in the first place but now you are being sent to the hospital. Imagine arriving at the hospital as this 8 year old girl scared and afraid and really not wanting to talk with or interact with anyone. After you are admitted downstairs you arrive on the pediatric floor and though it is friendly and everyone is cheerful and nice to you, you still do not want to be here. You are showed to your room and meet your nurse who asks your mom all kinds of questions, some which you do not understand and all you can think about is how you want your mom to crawl in bed with you right now and protect you. You overhear your nurse say something about getting a poke and briefly remember her telling you about a magic cream that will help take during the poke. After your nurse is finished, a group of doctors who you have never met come into the room and again start asking your mom questions, some of which she has already answered, and then they want to look in your throat and check your ears, and you do not even know these people. You begin to cry, so your mom sits down with you and explains why the doctors need to do all of these things, and because your mom asks you to you allow them but after all you want to do is crawl up with your mom. You do not want to be here and you want all these people to leave you alone!
Now enter the power of OwieBowWowie! This patient’s nurse comes out to tell me we have a new patient and she is very shy and upset about being here in the hospital. I ask if the patient needs a poke for an IV and whether the patient has received the magic cream (numbering cream). The patient’s nurse tells me yes but she is really worried about the patient’s emotional well being and is hopeful I can help. Thankfully, I remember I have a few extra OwieBowWowie’s stashed away for cases just like this.
I knock and enter the patient’s room. The mother instantly makes eye contact with me but the little girl is hesitant at first. I introduce myself and explain to both the patient and the mom what my job is here in the hospital. I begin to prep her for her IV start and while I’m talking I begin to see her eyes glancing at the box at the end of her bed. She quietly asks me what is in the box. I bring the box to her and tell her that inside is a very special friend named OwieBowWowie. I tell her the story of Owie and how someone special donor wanted to make sure that she had a friend to comfort her while she was here in the hospital. She asks if she can open the box and I tell her of course. As she begins to open the box and see’s Owie I notice tears in her mother’s eyes. As the little girl unwraps Owie and gives him a hug a smile finally crosses her face. She continues to hug Owie as we talk about what will happen while she is here in the hospital. When we are finished I provide this beautiful little girl with some art materials to have some fun while she is here. As I go to leave the patient’s room, the patient’s mother meets me outside the door, still with tears in her eyes, and says “Thank you.” The mother continues to tell me that her son recently had surgery at another hospital and while he was waiting for surgery was given a stuffed animal but someone on the staff and all she wanted for her daughter was for someone to remember that she is still a child and needed that extra dose of love.
From that day forward while this little girl was here in the hospital she never left her bedside without Owie. If she went for a walk, Owie went for a walk, when she went to CT, Owie went to CT, when she went to the playroom, Owie went to the playroom. Owie not only brought tears to her mother’s eyes, but more importantly Owie brought a smile to this little girls face. The day this little girl left our hospital she presented me with a painting of her and Owie together as a thank you.
This is just one of the amazing stories of the way OwieBowWowie has made a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. I hope this story has showed you what a difference Owie has made here in our hospital and gives you a glimpse of the difference Owie can make for children in hospitals worldwide. Someday I would love to be able to give an OwieBowWowie to every patient I have the privilege of seeing!

OwieBowWowie is a great organization ran by one of the most generous and selfless women I have ever met. She cares more about those people in need of comfort then she does herself and has sacrificed more than anyone can truly understand to ensure the sick children have something to hold onto. This selfless and giving attitude is directly mirrored by the organization who gives much more than a toy to these kids. OwieBowWowie is more than a toy the child can hold onto. It’s a symbol to these children that they are not alone and that people are thinking of them. It also gives those people who feel helpless when they see a sick child something to do, something to give.

Our 14 year old Granddaughter had her 9th open heart surgery two weeks ago. This was the big one, since her heart was stopped, and she was on the heart/lung machine for 4 1/2 hours, while they worked on her. When she came around, there was her very own Owie to hold. She slept with it, and held it all during the days, until she was released from the hospital. She is on a 6 week recovery period at home, and still sleeps with her Owie every night. She has other "stuffed dolls/animals" she could have with her at night, but only her Owie is the one she chose to keep and hold. THANKS for Owie being there for her. Max beerup, Kansas City, MO.
