I was a volunteer at the Buwaiswa Children's Home along with one other volunteer in 2010 for two months. I stood in for teachers at the elementary school and taught English and Math and lived at the orphanage.
The children housed by OGLM are smart and they deserve a chance. With OGLM they have food, shelter and education, but they deserve a chance to be something in this world-- and many of them could be with not very much help at all. If you support OGLM's mission and their work with marginalized, parentless children, I would encourage you to sponsor a child through high school-- paying for school supplies and uniform (although school is supposed to be free in Uganda, these necessities are required to attend).
If you have any questions about my experience, or are thinking about volunteering with OGLM, feel free to get in touch.
I was contracted by Julian Foundation in 2006/May to carry out an Organization assessment for OGLM - Uganda. Julian Foundation is a donor organization based in CA - USA. OGLM has applied to the foundation for possible funding. I was so impressed by the systems and structures in place. I loved the way OGLM works with the Orphan Children affacted by HIV/AIDS along side their grandmothers. OGLM needs to improve on her fundraising skills.
