Mission: The mission of lideres campesinas is to develop leadership among farm working women (campesinas) so that they serve as agents of political, social and economic change in the farmworker community. This leadership has created an organization by and for campesinas. The approach emphasizes capacity building, democratic decision-making, advocacy, peer training and leadership development as well as a mixture of traditional and innovative education, outreach and mobilizing methods such as house meetings, arts, and theatrical presentations at community venues.
Programs: To assist in the development of farmworker women to improve their lives and the lives of their families in the areas of violence against women and environmental justice. During the year, lideres campesinas accomplished the following:- peer to peer education to 10,000 farmworker women on domestic violence (dv) and sexual assault and harassment (sa), women's health (wh), and working conditions (wc) to farmworker women through house meetings, marches, vigils, informational tables at health fairs, art exhibits, theatre, and group presentations- 200 dv, sa, wh, and wc community events - referred 58 dv, 4 sa and 50 wc survivors to available resources- provided training on how to effectively reach out to and provide services to farmworker women to a total of 40 agency representatives and 30 law enforcement agents- 195 active chapter members with the support of 14 staff planned and coordinated all the activities. Members contributed an estimated 14,040 hours during the fiscal year.
