Causes: Homeless & Housing, Homeless Shelters
Mission: Ohra was formed by a group of concerned citizens in june 2012 to focus on those who were homeless or those pushed to the verge of homelessness by poverty. As we help people from crisis to stability we build: more capable individuals, stronger families, and a better community. Our strategic focus is on: enhancing our ability to improve lives, build ohra's organizational infrastructure, foster interagency collaboration, and improve public awareness of poverty.
Programs: Essential services: in 2017 670 people were served by ohra with one or more of the following services: personal identification documentation, internet and telephone access, us mail service, personal hygiene (908 showers and 224 loads of laundry), oregon health plan applications, mental health counseling and referrals, supplemental nutrition assistance (snap), and navigation of legal aid, social security, and veteran's affairs.
housing program: 138 successes. 34 families were housed. Each family was previously living in a place not intended for permanent human habitation: a tent, an automotible, a shelter, or outdoors. 104 housed families received rental and/or utility assistance allowing them to remain in their homes and avoid evictions.
job program: 78 successes. 34 people were successful in finding temporary jobs during 2017. 44 people were successful in finding permanent employment during 2017. At the end of 2017 there were 29 people enrolled in our job match program still seeking a job or steady employment.
