Mission: Ogunquit chamber of commerce fosters and promotes business, enhances economic and community development and serves as a catalyst for improving the overall quality of life in the ogunquit area.
Programs: The chamber produces and distributes a visitor's guidebook and a comprehensive map of the ogunquit area. They are both free to all visitors and mailed in response to internet or telephone requests. The guidebook offers suggestions on what to see or do and where to dine, shop, or stay. Local information such as biking rules and walking paths are included as well. The map is handed out by member businesses as well as at all municipal parking lots. 60,000 guidebooks and 50,000 maps are produced each year. Christmas by the sea is a town-wide event created to draw business to ogunquit in the traditionally slow season. The event brings thousands of people to town in december, and is large enough that the town of wells to our north plans their christmas parade to occur on the weekend of our event. The event was created in the late 1980s. Patriots day celebration is a town-wide event that signifies the unofficial start of our tourist season. The event draws several thousand people into our town, with patriotic and colonial theme. Down east magazine named the event "best display of patriotism" in the state of maine. Because many of the townspeople help the event by dressing in costume, not only does it bring in visitors, but it enhances the relationship between the resident and business sectors of ogunquit. The event was created in 1990. Ogunquitfest is an annual town-wide event held each october after columbus day and draws local residents and tourists alike into town for the fall season. Activities include halloween-themed events, a classic car show, craft show, costume parade, ghostly tours, and pumpkin decorating for both children and adult's entertainment.
