Causes: Child Day Care, Children & Youth
Mission: Oakland lacrosse club develops lacrosse boys and girls teams consisting of youth from oakland and the surrounding oakland area. We recruit and develop players and provide coaching and administrative support from volunteer parents. The cost of providing this service is paid for through registration fees and fundraising efforts. Scholarships are offered to players in need who are unable to pay the registration fee. Oakland lacrosse clubs goal is to establish and develop lacrosse teams in oakland, california, for both boys and girls in middle school and high school. To do so, the organization provides coaching and prepares players to compete in lacrosse games and tournaments. This includes, but is not limited to: recruiting and registering players, scheduling games, fundraising, scheduling field times, recruiting of coaches, designing and maintaining a website, monitoring certification of coaches, purchasing equipment and uniforms, and performing other administrative duties. Programs: The youth program exposed the sport of lacrosse to 1000 students through its outreach program. In the spring season the youth program had three teams. A boys u15, a boys u13 and a girls u15. A total of over 70 players from six public schools participated on our teams. The teams practiced weekly and the three teams participated in over 30 games. The program provided scholarships for over half of the program. The program provided three nutrition workshops. Additionally, in the fall of 2014 we provided study two times a week for about 25 players. In 2015-2016 we will have 100 players in our program and will provide tutoring for about 50.
the oakland tech high school program sponsored two teams in the 2014 spring season, a boys varsity team, and a girls team. Over 60 players participated. Approximately 10 players received scholarships.
the skyline high school program sponsored a boys jv team in the spring of 2014. Over 20 high school students participated, and over half received scholarships.
