Mission: To improve the quality of life for persons with developmental disabilities in every manner possible. Fulton county chapter nysarc, inc. 's (dba lexington center) mission is to provide the best possible services for children and adults who are disabled and their families, to be the best possible employer for its employees, and to otherwise contribute to the good of the community.
Programs: Individualized residential alternative (ira) is a home in the community for one or more persons. The majority of the homes are supervised residences which provide supervision and assistance on a twenty four hour basis and may require certain self-maintenance skills as a prerequisite to admission. No services are attached to the home, it is simply the person's home. Residents receive assistance with activities of daily living, community inclusion, relationship building, and self advocacy skills. There are a variety of home settings that are designed to meet the individual's needs and interests. Also included in this group of residences are supportive apartments. This living arrangement requires a greater level of independence on the part of the resident and there is no overnight supervision. Approximately 490 persons are served.
day habilitation services are structured activities and supports provided in natural settings or chapter facilities to promote independence, inclusion, choice, self-esteem, and skill development. Participants have the opportunity to explore new areas of interest, to become more involved within their communities and set and pursue their personal goals. Approximately 496 persons are served.
supportive employment is a service provided to individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities who may have difficulty finding and keeping a job. Job coaches and trainers support these individuals so they can fully participate in their communities through employment. Approximately 164 persons are served.
