Causes: Centers to Support the Independence of Specific Populations, Human Services
Mission: NYEMA was founded in 1997 by Lama Norlha Rinpoche, a native of Nangchen, in an effort to help its inhabitants preserve their culture within a modern context. Since its founding, NYEMA has established schools to combat the region's greater than 95% illiteracy rate, established basic medical care in remote villages, and helped to rebuild Nangchen's monastic tradition, which has been the repository of its culture for centuries. NYEMA seeks to support its current projects until they are self-sufficient and continues to search for new and cost-effective ways to support the people of Nangchen. Please see our website at www.nyema.org for a detailed description of our programs.
