Fiscally speaking, I've never seen people do more with less resources. They have small budgets but do as much as not for profits three times their size. I would recommend donating to them every single day.

From what I saw, which was over 6 months last year, this should be the model for NYC as far as emergency food goes. Their commitment and dedication to their clients as well as inexpensive, yet effective programs were top notch.

I volunteered with all of their programs but the one that was the most fun was the Urban Free Produce Program. We would, weekly, give away more than 200lbs of local produce to those in need. One time we gave it away in less than 6 minutes. Amazing. I love that there is a problem in the community and they solved it!

It was the greatest experiance for my child. They were so nice and helped James to learn how to cook and be healthy. The best part was that they sent stuff home so we could all cook and be healthy. God Bless them!!

I helped with several others to make a hot meal for those in need. It was fun and everything we created made nutritional sense of the people coming in. The portions were a little bigger than you'd do at home but for most this is their only meal.

It was an amazing time. We spent the first hour and a half working under a fabulous chef to prepare a healthy meal for those in need. We spent the next three hours greeting, meeting and serving people of the community and beyond. Some people asked questions about the meal and how it was healthy and some of the clients eating even knew why it was good but just couldn't afford or cook foods like that. It was sad to hear but uplifting that they were so excited about eating healthy. I loved the experience and would do it again and again!! You should give it a try.
