Mission: Northstar academy is central virginia's only k-12 non-profit school for students with a wide range of disabilities. Students receive specialized instruction in a structured but nurturing environment. The northstar academy curriculum is based on the virginia standards of learning and addresses the whole child - academically, physically and socially. Our innovative transition and social skills programs are unique to northstar and help prepare our older students for life beyond high school. Many of our students may not have thrived in customary educational settings, but at northstar we embrace their challenges in pursuit of a joy of learning and renewed self-confidence. Northstar academy is accredited by the virginia association of independent specialized education facilities and our student to teacher ratio is 8:1.
Programs: The organizations primary accomplishment is the operation of a school for children with a broad range of learning challenges. Fiscal year 6/30/17 enrollment was approximately 90students.
our career academy aims to help students develop the self-determination and self-advocacy skills necessary for achieving independent living, employment and/or post-secondary education. Fiscal year 6/30/17 enrollment was approximately 22.
