Mission: The natural and cultural histories of lake tahoe inform who we are and define our sense of place and our heritage. The mission of the nlths is to hold these histories in trust by collecting, preserving, presenting and interpreting them for all people, and by keeping them safe and accessible now and for future generations.
Programs: Museum operations: the gatekeeper's museum was open year round: open seven hours a day, six days a week between memorial day and october and open weekends from october until memorial day. In addition, we had special hours during the holiday season. The watson cabin was open four hours a day, four days a week from labor day through october, but primarily closed in the winter season (the exception being our holiday hours in december).
interpretive events: we held multiple history and natural history-oriented events that were attended by more than 800 attendees. We offered history-themed outings such as an historic bus tour, history hikes and wildflower hikes.
education: we provided educational opportunities via history programs in the museum. We served students from local elementary and middle schools, as well as class groups from from high schools and colleges. In addition to local student groups, we served elderhostel groups and students from schools outside of the tahoe basin. In 2017, we served more than 600 students with these programs.
