Causes: Community Mental Health Centers, Mental Health
Mission: Our mission is to establish, maintain and operate a group of centers, providing for the examination, diagnosis and treatment of the mentally challenged, as well as those suffering behavioral or emotional disorders. We also assist the culturally diverse communities in which we operate by assisting mentally disabled individuals and their families to meet their own needs and thus improve the quality of their lives. We do this by providing quality mental health services, and using the most up-t0 date evidence based practices, to help our clients become active and productive members of their communities; and to establish and maintain appropriate professional levels of conduct among staff; and to monitor and make use of new developments in the examination, diagnosis and tratment of the mentally ill.
Programs: The agency provides outpatient psychotherapy and related therapeutic services during the course of the year for a population of approximately 20,000 psychiatric patients including severely and persistently mentally ill adults and seriously emotionally disturbed children. About 425 full & part time psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric social workers and related paraprofessionals conducted approximately 380,000 patient visits in our clinic treatment programs and approximately 170,000 patient hours in our continuing day treatment programs during this fiscal year. We operated in 7 locations in brooklyn, bronx and queens, including severely deprived communities. About 10% of the visits were provided free, or on a modest sliding scale, and medicaid and medicare paid for the remainder. The clinic's services are nearly 100% directed at indigent and lower-middle class patients. The majority of patients are severely ill; many are multiply handicapped.
