Causes: Arts & Culture, Opera
Mission: The mission of tne ny lyric opera theatre is to bring the beauty and passion and beauty of opera by offering lower priced & free tickets and many opportunities for performers throughout the new york community. We will provide opera productions. Concerts for professionals & emerging professionals and competitions to reward excellence in opera. Our educational series includes giving educational performances in public, private & inner city schools, hospitals & nursing homes, and, giving master classes to young & emerging singers. All master classes will be open to the public to educate the community not only about the music but also the history of the composers, what was happening in history, various languages performed, dramatic intention & subtle nuances ofvthe music.
Programs: In 2014, ny lyric opera theatre performed over 40 shows in top locations which included carnegie hall, lincoln center, national opera center, symphony space on broadway and dimenna center for the perfroming arts among others. We also collaborated for the first time with the metamorphosis chamber orchestra the metropolitan opera's publication opera news reviewed two of our performances. The highlights from the opera news revies are featured as our 2nd and 3rd accomplishments for the year ny lyric gave away over $5,000 in cash prizes for our national compettition which awards excellence in opera. National finals were held at carnegie hall and symphony space on broadway. There were four age categories: junior high (11-14); high school (14-18); division i (18-24); and , division ii (25-32). For our regional locations, we collaborated with the university of miami for our southern division; university of illinois in champaign-urbana for our midwestern division; and, nola studios in nyc for our northern and western locations. Ny lyric held our 1st summer music program where singers from all over the world came to participate. Immediately following our summer music program, we held our annual summer festival. In addition to offering lower priced tickets, we gave away hundreds of free tickets to the community
