Causes: Mental Health, Residential Mental Health Treatment
Mission: To assist individuals and families in the enhancement of their emotional, mental and physical well-being by providing mental health, intellectual and developmental disability and substance abuse services. We recognize our responsibility to serve those who have limited options for meeting their needs we plan within our communities, develop innovative programs to respond rapidly to needs and, as appropriate, help influence community priorities to ensure that individual and community service gaps are addressed.
Programs: Major accomplishments have been made at oakwood in the following areas during the past year: - implemented the safety works program to reduce the amount of employee injuries and lost work time through training and retraining on safety awareness and how to handle specific situations. Oakwood is now accommodating work restrictions during the recovery periods. Due to diligence with safety w. O. R. K. S. , insurance premiums for upcoming year are down 13. 6%, a savings of over $200,000. - hired a new medical director on june 1, 2017; - annual recertification surveys were conducted for units 2, 3, and 4 with no deficiencies cited; unit 1 only had one standard level deficiency cited. - continues to expand student placement/internships from various universities and colleges; psychology services has two yearlong interns, one clinical psychology doctoral student and one master level behavior analyst student- continues to expand community awareness of the clinics and auxiliary services available to people in the community through presentation of provider and special forums; - the enrichment center produces numerous hand-crafted products which are sold at bluegrass expressions, the off campus store. Certain items are labeled as kentucky crafted and are now showcased at craft shows across the state. Bluegrass expressions is now a wholesale supplier to some fine gift shops in the state;- bluegrass expression opened the only tea room in the lake cumberland area, expanding unique employment opportunities for individuals living at oakwood. Expressions received the chamber of commerce 2016 "non-profit of the year" award. - grand opening and ribbon cutting of the oakwood specialty outpatient clinic was held july 30, 2016. The specialty clinic is a state-of-the-art facility providing the highest quality medical, dental and psychiatric care to individuals with intellectual and development disabilities. - therapy services provides assessments, direct treatment, consultations and training for individuals residing at oakwood as well as for individuals in the community through the oakwood outpatient clinic;- psychology services provides behavioral counseling, and autism assessments for individuals in the community through the oakwood outpatient clinic. - nutrition services provides nutrition assessments and interventions for individuals in the community through the oakwood outpatient clinic. - patient receiving services in the outpatient clinic has grown to over 300 unique individuals. - psychology services offering an ongoing group treatment program called skills system that assists individuals with challenging behavior and emotional dysregulation to learn coping and self-management skills. - upgraded mowing tractor and finish mower to a 21 ft. Finish mower increasing productivity. - installed two new air units in the main kitchen of the 600 building, one unit in shipping and two units in offices of kitchen and laundry. - installed new roofs on four of our residential homes. - installed new led lighting on all of our main roads across campus - poured new front patio for home 109- installed production line for packaging on parts from hendrixson in the laundry area. - compliance department had 2 workgroups present at the annual aaidd conference: "overcoming barriers to inclusion in faith communities", and "understanding my life plan: a guide to the developmental disability professional on developing an alternative ilp". We continue to operate a community bowling league. Our staff partnered with four individuals to complete the community based "health partners" wellness program.
