Mission: The primary purpose of nmcea is to promote the revitalization of communities and schools through education initiatives that link them in workshops, service and volunteer opportunities. Serving: students and teachers in k-16 schools in north central nm region; adults and community members in the north-central region of new mexico. Programs: Music from angel fire festival "music in the schools" outreach program: 28 chamber music concerts were organized in 17 schools, provided by 12 young artists from the curtis institute, serving approximately 2,800 k-12 students in schools in the north central region of new mexico.
concluded eco-explorers project: approximately 40 teachers (k-16) were trained during three workshops on stem (science, technology, engineering and math)-related curricula as an expansion of the eco-labs permaculture curriculum introduced in 2007. Watersheds and foodsheds content for k-12 students and field trips to five community partner sites for the development of service-learning methods.
consulting services in service-learning: consulted with taos academy to help 86 students fulfill service-learning initiatives in school charter.
tutoring services: a new project established this year, one on one tutoring is being offered in language arts, mathematics and other academic areas for kindergarten through sixth grade students. Served nine children with professional tutoring this fiscal year.
