Mission: The new media advocacy project (nmap) partners with civil society and human rights organizations to create strategic, multimedia campaigns that effectively promote human and environmental rights and advance justice. Nmap's filmmakers and media professionals help human rights advocates integrate visual media and new technologies directly into their advocacy strategies, enabling them to win their cases and achieve their advocacy goals more effectively and efficiently. Nmap assists human rights advocates and lawyers, other not-for-profit organizations, underserved communities, and victims of human rights abuses by co-developing and integrating multimedia into their public and private advocacy efforts.
Programs: In 2017, nmap partnered with 45 civil society organizations across four continents to advance some of the most difficult and least visible human rights cases and campaigns, using multimedia storytelling to improve access to justice for low-income communities, women, and communities of color. We continued to fight extractive industry abuse by using video to empower rural communities targeted for mining to defend their rights; demonstrated how defrauded students could access their right to loan forgiveness; fought for a moratorium on the death penalty in pakistan, advocated for transitional justice in guatemala, and more. In total, our projects reached more than two million people around the world.
