Causes: Domestic Violence, Family Violence Shelters, Homeless & Housing
Mission: New life center's mission statement "saving lives, building futures empowering survivors escaping domestic violence" is fulfilled by offering emergency shelter and services to victims in need of a safe haven, as well as providing mobile advocacy support to victims in the community who have exited shelter or who need support and access to services without the safe shelter component.
Programs: New life center ensured comprehensive, trauma informed services to 1041 survivors of domestic violence in fiscal year 2017 using the lethality assessment protocol and partnering with local law enforcement. Our shelter consists of 24 casitas and 104 beds in a garden style campus and include master's level case management services, safety planning, criminal justice support, group treatment, personal advocacy, victim compensation claim assistance, crisis counseling, information and referrals, housing and relocation services, crisis hotline, follow up contact and general public education.
emergency shelter - new life center remains the only provider of emergency domestic violence shelter in southwestern maricopa county and, with 104 beds, is one of the largest providers of emergency domestic violence shelter in the state. New life center is at capacity 365 days a year which validates the need in our community. There has been a decrease in emergency shelter beds across the state and yet the need for emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence continues to rise.
crime victim assistance - in addition to emergency shelter services, with increased funding from victim of crime assistance, new life center expanded mobile advocacy services and added lay legal services including safety planning, orders of protection, criminal justice support, court accompaniment, civil standby assistance, support with victim impact statements and victims compensation claim assistance. Increased funding expanded children and teen advocacy services through a trauma-informed model of care. Collaboration of pet, art and music therapy add group experiences designed for healing. 70% of our residents are children. Campus includes a child development center, basketball court, playground and splash pad.
