the lake host program is an educational and courtesy boat inspection program administered by nh lakes in cooperation with local participating groups to prevent the introduction and spread of aquatic nuisance species from waterbody to waterbody. Nh lakes secures grants to hire and provide payroll and payroll services for approximately 313 seasonal employees and 377 volunteers working as lake hosts with local sponsoring groups lake associations, municipalities at approximately 100 public boat ramps. Local sponsoring groups are required to match the payroll amount provided by nh lakes at a minimum of 100 either through in-kind volunteering or by contributing cash to the program which nh lakes allocates towards local lake host payroll. During the summer of 2016, lake host staff and volunteers inspected over 92,000 boats and discovered and removed 48 plant fragments of invasive species. The net gain shown for this program reflects allowable overhead that was not picked up in the tax return.
summer youth employment program purpose an education and employment program that engages financially disadvantaged and academically at-risk high school students in lake hosting and lake conservation corps projects. Youth also engage in other outreach activities that encourage lake and watershed stewardship on the local level and provides interactive curriculum instruction and transportation services.
