Causes: Human Services, Residential Care & Adult Day Programs
Mission: To assist and advocate for people in crisis due to unstable or conflictive living situations, resulting in increased stability and more productive lives.
Programs: Shelter program - short-term faculty for youth who are in crisis. Located in a three-story house close to downtown, the shelter provides emergency care for up to twelve youth ages 12 through 19. The maximum length of stay is three weeks.
transitional living program - provides housing and supportive services to help older adolescents (ages 16-21) develop the attitudes and skills necessary for independent living. Services are designed for youth who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness.
outreach program - serves youth ages 14-21 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless throughout androscoggin, kennebec, and franklin counties with comprehensive case management, referrals to local and state agencies, assistance with placements and housing needs, connection to local educational and employment programs, and street outreach to connect with youth outreach program.
community service programs - include hiv prevention, research and training. Hiv education is provided to youth in all of the organization's programs, utilizing curricula that have been evaluated for their effectiveness in helping youth to reduce risky behaviors. Youth serve as hiv educators with their peers. The organization coordinates hiv training and education for agencies serving high risk youth across the state.
