Results: We are in the process of getting the information about the Foster Grandparent Program out to the public. The greatest challenge we are facing is COVID and the associated health concerns of this pandemic. These health concerns resulted in the closing of or restricting access to the schools and daycares. CDC's instruction for the public to stay home and socially isolate also contributed to the challenge of getting information about the Foster Grandparent Program out to the public.
Target demographics: The Foster Grandparent program connects role models like you with local at-risk children. The Foster Grandparent Program is open to volunteers 55 and over who can serve between 5 and 40 hours a week. Volunteers do not need formal experience in tutoring or mentoring. AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers who serve in the Foster Grandparent program provide the kind of comfort and love that sets a child on a path to a successful future. Join Foster Grandparents today and assist children in your communities develop critical academic and life skills through mentoring and tutoring in local schools and community-based programs. You have what it takes, no formal schooling required. Training will be provided.

Geographic areas served: Currently we are recruiting volunteers for the Foster Grandparent Program. The Foster Grandparent Program is a nationwide program and has been around for over 50 years. This program recruits’ people 55 and older from local communities to volunteer in the schools and work one-on-one with at-risk children in an educational setting. The program goal is to enhance the child’s educational experience and assist the teacher with their educational objective.
