Mission: The virginia daughters of the american revolution is organized for charitable and educational purposes in order to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved american independence by preserving historic landmarks and promoting the study of history; to carry out the injunction of george washington in his farewell address to the american people "to promote, as an object of primary importance, institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge" by providing scholarships and supporting education; to foster true patriotism and love of country by encouraging proper use of the u. S. Flag and supporting america's military men and women, both active duty and veterans; and to bring into close relationship the chapters of the daughters of the american revolution in virginia through communications and meetings.
Programs: Meetings, luncheons & tours:the virginia dar holds meetings and luncheons during the year to inform attendees of initiatives of the state officers and state chairmen to promote history, foster patriotism, and support education, to learn about the results of those initiatives, to elect officers, to conduct other business and to foster closer ties among the chapters and members of the dar in virginia.
historic preservation, renovation, and education:virginia dar donated $2,588 towards the helen pouch memorial fund. Virginia dar also provided funding for other historic preservations.
scholarships:the virginia dar provided scholarships for deserving students attending college in the commonwealth.
