Causes: Digestive Diseases & Disorders Research, Health
Mission: Npuap serves as the authoritative voice for improved patient outcomes in pressure ulcer prevention and treatment through public policy, education, and research.
Programs: Npuap holds biennial conferences to educate and share information with health care professionals (nurses, physical therapists, doctors, dieticians, researchers and others) involved in pressure ulcer prevention and management. Two panel meetings per year are held for the members of the organization to exchange information and develop guidelines relative to pressure ulcer identification, prevention and treatment.
npuap's s3i (support surface standards initiative) group is involved in the development of standardized guidelines of support surface (i. E. Beds, mattresses) testing. This work will culminate in the development of uniform terminology, test methods and reporting standards for support surfaces.
guidelines development program: the pressure ulcer prevention and treatment guidelines products, developed by the npuap guidelines task force, includes a quick reference guide, for clinicians who need a 'quick' reference in caring for patients, and a clinical practice guideline, for sophisticated health care providers interested in both the recommendations and the evidence supporting recommendations.
