Out of reach attracts extensive media coverage throughout the country, including by major national outlets like the washington post, the wall street journal, npr, citylab, esquire, the huffington post, univision, fast company, vox, and others. - published and widely distributed the 2017 edition of the gap: a shortage of affordable homes report, documenting a shortage of more than 7 million affordable and available rental units for the nation's 11. 4 million extremely low income renter households and showing that over 70% of the lowest income renter households in the u. S. Are severely housing cost-burdened, spending more than half of their incomes on their housing. - hosted a national housing policy forum attended by more than 300 advocates, researchers, residents, government officials to discuss and learn about issues and solutions to homelessness and housing poverty. - participated in 286 interviews and other exchanges with print, online, television and radio media on affordable housing issues and solutions. Nationwide, more than 3,500 media stories mentioned nlihc, nlihc's research, the national housing trust fund, and other nlihc-related topics and issues. - published/sent 48 issues of memo to members and partners, nlihc's highly regarded national weekly e-newsletter on national and state affordable housing developments, legislation, regulations, and research sent weekly to more than 40,000 readers. - produced and distributed to coalition members and other partners nlihc's annual advocates guide, the most comprehensive compendium of federal affordable housing programs, laws, and issues in the nation. - regularly engaged our members in education and advocacy efforts and supported the activities of 62 state housing and homeless coalitions in 42 states and the district of columbia. - partnered with the public and affordable housing research corporation (pahrc) to update and offer the national housing preservation database, the only publicly available national inventory of assisted housing across federal subsidy programs at the property address level. - published and distributed nationally to over 2,000 recipients two editions of "tenant talk," an magazine for low income public housing residents, subsidized housing tenants, and other low income individuals. - convened and led several broad-based national policy advocacy campaigns and task forces including the campaign for housing and community development funding, the national housing trust fund (htf) policy committee, and the housing and criminal justice reform task force. - convened a disaster housing recovery coalition of more than 700 organizations working jointly to ensure a fair, robust housing recovery, particularly for those with the lowest incomes, following the hurricanes in texas, florida, puerto rico and the u. Virgin islands, and wildfires in california. - led the first "our homes, our voices" national housing week of action july 22-29 featuring more than 60 events and activities in 28 states and dc, calling for increased investments in affordable homes and strong communities.
