Mission: To provide training, education, and technical support in the forensic sciences in order to assist members of the criminal justice community achieve the highest level of quality services for the justice system.
Programs: Training and subject matter expertise support: see schedule oin 2017 nfstc continued to support the u. S. Military by delivering on more than 20 awards. Our instructors trained more than 130 marines in expeditionary forensic capability in support of the u. S. Marine corps expeditionary forensics exploitation capability (efec) contract. Nfstc trained over 36 students and provided logistical support for special operations command (socom) activities under the expansion of our exploitation analysis center (eac) contract. In addition, 20 students were provided training in support of the navy expeditionary exploitation unit (exu-1). Our staff provided specialized forensic training to more than 40 students for 11 domestic law enforcement agencies. In addition, nfstc provided training and support to a variety of international law enforcement agencies (including australia, canada, and bahrain) along with csi and dna training for a total of 56 students through the award and expansion of multiple department of state grants under the bureau of international narcotics & law enforcement affairs (inl) for honduras, costa rica, el salvador, panama, and guatemala. Nfstc provides services support through personnel management in specific forensic intelligence areas, including field service representative and reach back expertise for eac activities: combat warfare & weapons of mass destruction (cwmd) for joint intelligence preparation of the operational environment (jipoe); and research development support for defense intelligence agency (dia). Our four online training courses drew 160 enrollments, serving both industry professionals and the general public. In addition, nfstc partnered with multiple private universities to provide forensic training to 15 students. As a trusted provider of high quality, independent dna laboratory audits required by the fbi quality assurance standards, nfstc conducted 13 audits for us law enforcement agencies. At the conclusion of 2017, nfstc ceased operations for this support program. Nfstc provided test & evaluation support for a variety of forensic equipment and methodologies with a variety of forensic service providers and conducted 14 evaluation activities in 2017. Nfstc utilized its in-house media services team for the production of digital content and delivery mechanisms to support a variety of forensic science content including webinars, websites, and user guides/job aides for forensic instruments.
nfstc's continued goal of ensuring all stakeholders receive and provide the highest level of forensic science services was enhanced by expanding our partnerships with other organizations to leverage the combined expertise of our nation's foremost subject matter experts. In support of this effort, nfstc's subleased space to like-minded organizations increased to 16 tenants in 2017.
