Causes: Children & Youth, Youth Development - Agricultural
Mission: The organization's primary exempt purpose is to provide opportunities for high school students in the st. Louis metro area to experience a working farm in the ozarks region. Visiting students gain a brief introduction to the history, both geographical and cultural, of the ozark region, which includes its flora, fauna, and the challenges to develop a farm according to diversified and sustainable organic practices. The purpose also includes the exploration and integration of the practical, conceptual, and philosophical issues associated with the practice of perma-culture understood as a design system for creating ecologically sustainable human habitats and production systems.
Programs: The current year achieved the continued development of appropriate infrastructure that both reflects and furthers our mission goals as well as providing better accomodations for attending groups. The infrastructure provides working models of the various practices and ideals enunciated in the mission statement. It included a substantial completion of phase i the construction project. Criteria development and soliciation of new board members was another project. There were also volunteers during the current year to stay on the premises and monitor development. Visitations in the current year included 22 students for the developing programs.
