Mission: The mission of move along inc. Is to provide adapted recreational opportunities for people who live with disabilities in central new york. By offering an array of athletic and artistic programming and opportunities for peer-to-peer support, move along, inc. Will help build and develop participant's self-confidence and enhance their self-worth, thereby enabling them to better integrate themselves fully into society and act as their own advocates.
Programs: Sled hockey - continued partnership with the skaneateles ymca/community center. Scheduled ice time increased from 15 practices in the prior year to 18 in the current year. The program had 18 regular participants and the skill level of each participant grew both individually and as a team. The program held it's first tournament over three days with three other area teams. The sled hockey team attended the disability festival in marlboro, ma and placed third in the class b category. Three players will be attending the sled hockey select camp this summer. The sled hockey program is recognized strongly in the northeast and by the national coordinators for usa sled hockey.
wheelchair basketball - during 2014 wheelchair season was still a period of rebuilding the team and structure for the syracuse flyers under move along inc. Average participation in this program was 34 individuals.
adaptive cycling - expanded joint activities with arise and ride event and enable's anything that rolls event. Program ran mid june to early september at onondaga lake park. Existing participants increased by 40 plus with participant level growing 10 fold from the prior year. Continued goal to expand program in the 2014 fiscal year through additional partnerships and increased awareness through local events.
inclusive sports - increased awareness about adaptive sports through programs at primary and secondary schools in the syracuse, new york area. Since launching this program the organization has visited 5 schools with growing plans to expand the program reach exponentially in the coming school year. Program utilized team sports to help build self esteem, self confidence and independence, improving social skills with many health benefits from maintaining a healthy life style for boys and girls ages 5 to 17 living with mobility issues.
kayaking and aquadic - the summer kayaking program continued it's partnership with the suny upstate physical therapy program by having a physical therapist and an intern attend kayak trips to instruct volunteers and assist with transfers and participant monitoring. Scheduled trips grew from 6 in the prior year to 8 in the current year. Participation level grew in the current year and all participants showed improvement in kayaking skills and independence. The aquadic program continued with the family recreational swim night. Program is for individuals with physical disabilities who enjoy the water.
