the morongo basin conservation association is the oldest conservation voice in the morongo basin, a string of small communities on the north boundary of joshua tree national park. i rely on mbca to inform me about emerging conservation and land use issues both in the morongo basin and regionally in so cal. they research information and provide excellent comment letters to decision-making agencies.
additionally, they became wonderfully proactive when they launched their desert-wise living series, a public outreach program that offers alternatives to living with rising costs and shortfalls of water & energy resources. each year mbca offers at least 2 dwl events, one of them being a self guided tour of residential water-wise gardens . . .very inspiring to see ideas in action.
the organization supports itself with dedicated volunteers, donations, and grants: mbca has no staff. it is amazing the difference they have made fighting for the public while operating on a shoestring budget. this is the kind of work that i respect of a non-profit organization--strong work ethic, dedication, and professionalism toward their mission of improving quality of life with timely information.
