Mission: Morningside center for teaching social responsibility works hand in hand with educators to help young people develop the values, personal qualities, and skills they need to thrive and contribute to their communitiesfrom the classroom to the world. Our evidence-validated programs help all members of a school community develop essential social and emotional skills and create a more positive and productive classroom and school climate.
Programs: Classroom-based programs. Each year, morningside center provides training and coaching for educators in programs that foster social and emotional learning in thousands of young people. Programs include: the 4rs (reading, writing, respect & resolution) for prek-8. The 4rs develops the academic, social and emotional skills of students from pre-k through middle school by integrating sel into the language arts curriculum. The 4rs uses children's literature as a springboard for developing their social, emotional and academic skills. A major scientific study found that the 4rs improves students social and emotional competency, behavior, attendance, and academic performance and creates a more positive classroom climate for learning.
restore360 for grades 6-12. Through restore360, morningside center has provided training and coaching to help hundreds of schools create a sense of community among students, build their social and emotional skills, and provide a positive alternative to punitive discipline policies that can lead to suspension. Resolving conflict creatively (rccp) develops the academic, social and emotional skills of students grades k-12 through an engaging, interactive curriculum. A major scientific study found that the rccp reduces aggression among youth and enhances their classroom learning.
after-school programs: paz. Morningside operates three highly-rated paz after-school programs that serve hundreds of young people, grades k-8, in brooklyn and the bronx. In paz, young people take part in engaging activities that build their social, emotional and academic skills, including through stem, the arts, cooperative sports, and community service. C squad: friends for the journey. Morningside supports a range of cbos in integrating social and emotional learning into their middle school after-school programs through c squad. The c squad curriculum engages young people in fun, interactive activities around a series of themes, including anger, friendship, stress, dreams and goals, and becoming a successful student. Embedded in each themes unit are activities that help young people develop core sel skills.
