Fires in two montana counties alone burned together into one massive blaze, consuming an overwhelming 270,000 acres and erratically waged war with the men and women fighting to save their homes, land, livestock, and livelihoods. Local residents, along with firefighters from around the nation, feverishly battled the blaze day and night. The fire destroyed miles of fencing and burned up pasture land as far as you could see.
