Causes: Food, Food Banks & Pantries, Food Programs
Mission: Missoula food bank & community center's mission is to lead the movement to end hunger in our community through activism, volunteerism and healthy food for all.
Programs: During the 2017-2018 fiscal year we served over 32,576 individuals in our store, who combined to receive 100,717 total store services. The number of different households served during the year was 7,221. Of the people served, 33% were children 18 and under, and 15% were seniors. In addition, missoula food bank & community center served 6,997 individuals for the thanksgiving holiday, and served an additional 1,360 customers in the lolo and potomac areas. The total amount serviced from all the programs was 249,133. Each month, the roots program delivers nutritious usda approved food to home-bound seniors in the community. Roots participants are over the age of 60 and living on less than 130% of the poverty level. Seniors are the fastest growing population of people who come to the missoula food bank & community center. Approximately 142 volunteers work 158 hours each month to assemble and deliver these food boxes. This fiscal year, 6,800 roots homebound client boxes were served. The kids empower pack program is a weekend nutrition program helping kids stay healthy and nourished while school is not in session. Kids in the progam are identified by school officials who recognize behaviors and circumstances of children living in chronic hunger at home. In 2017/2018, 32,740 empower packs were provided to kids. The kids table program partners with local childcare programs to help feed hungry kids. It also offers free lunch to children at open meal sites in the summer. Nutritionally balanced meals and snacks are offered to the kids. The program provided 30,905 meals in the summer program and 64,830 after school meals. Our kids table program grew significantly this fiscal year. In june 2018 we added a bus to our fleet that serves children in two separate neighborhoods as a mobile meal site. Missoula food bank & community center received 1,333,967 pounds of donated food and gave away 1,807,123 pounds of food. Other hunger relief agencies were given 21,115 pounds of food.
