Mission: To serve christ by creating abundant life opportunities and providing quality service for seniors.
Programs: Provide assisted living, dementia care, independent living, adult daycare service, child care, rehabilitation and home health services, child adoption service and numerous other activities to enhance the lives of those we serve. St. John's is a ministry of 22 lutheran (ecla) congregations. St. Vincent and st. John's came together with a common mision of meeting an unmet need through the creation of missions united. Both st. Vincent and st. John's are tax exempt under the exemptions of the roman catholic church in the united states and evangelical lutheran church of america, respectively. Missions united, inc. Opened montana's first state of the art ccrc in billings on january 5, 1998. Missions united, inc. Is an expression and extension of the church's mission. In public worship and in private settings, the following events happen: god's saving word is proclaimed, the sacraments are administered, prayers and devotions are offered, pastoral care and counseling is provided, and works of charity and benevolence are offered. Missions united is not just an expression and extension of the church; it is the church at work in this place and in the world. In our 18th year, missions united provided many community benefits. Included in our effort to promote benefits to our residents and provide services to others in the world were the following: 1. Invest in a community benefit tracking software that will help better define, track, and store all of our efforts, costs, and people served as a benefit to the larger community. Missions united provided $907,812 of community benefit to 28,768 people in 2016. 2. Missions united completed our 3rd full year of funding an "attended transportation" program for marginalized elderly in the billings area. This service is provided by big sky senior services, a local nonprofit organization that sets its service charges on a sliding scale according to ability to pay and primarily serves lower income elders. The board approved annual funding of up to $50,000 that will cover the cost of serving those who cannot afford these services. This program served 1,052 people. 3. $341,645 was distributed equally to the sponsors to support the charity care and medicaid services that the sponsors provide to low-income elders and other marginalized elders. Sponsors will be reporting back annually to the missions united board of directors on the use of those funds. 4. Missions united has intentionally not fully occupied its assisted living apartments to keep two respite rooms available to serve area seniors for short periods of time while long-term decisions can be made. These rooms provided care for about 539 days, resulting in a loss of $ 4,641. Missions united pays monthly bed hold fees of $36,500 to maintain availability to other levels of care via the st. John's continuum of care. 5. Staff encourages and facilitates the residents to volunteer in the community via formal programs, sponsorship and transportation. 6. The 2016 summer concert series held its 19th season on the missions united/st. John's campus. We hosted over 12,000 people as we provided five community events at no charge to our residents, friends and neighbors! Additional highlights include:* distributed $5000 to local non-profits. * raised another $7,000 for lutheran social services and resident needs fund: free-will offering. * provided countless smiles and memories for thousands. 7. Provide space to other organizations as needed - groups such as big sky senior services, retired teachers, non-denominational worship and bible studies, billings public library, arrowhead school events, recitals, sons of norway, p. E. O. , fortis leadership academy, billings public schools, msu art/music departments. 8. Events and educational awareness programs were held for tumbleweed, a program supporting homeless or displaced teenagers in the billings community, missions united and residents have "adopted" this group and are a regular drop box" location with all donations being delivered weekly. Peace lutheran church provides a community food pantry, and is also supported by this drop box" donation site. 9. Missions united paid and pledged $5,000/year for 5 years to leading age, a national association for nonprofits, for efforts in developing new technologies to support the nation's growing senior population. 10. In 2016, missions united provided free health assessments, education and/or guidance to approximately 1,007 seniors and their families including information about our services beyond that of missions united. This guidance helps their understanding and preparation for senior living and their understanding of other benefits available to them such as veterans aid and attendance, medicaid waiver, medicare a, b, and d, and /or improving their current situation by identifying opportunities and health needs while still living at home. Once residents, they find additional comfort in the fact that they have a plan for their future when their medical needs change. The goal of the mission ridge community is to provide housing, as well as health and financial security for our elders, while simultaneously preserving their privacy and self-sufficiency to the fullest extent possible. The senior living community consists of 120 independent living apartments and 62 assisted living apartments, and in conjunction with the existing long term care facility (st. John's), provides a full continuum of care to residents. Missions united is providing for the physical, spiritual, social, and emotional wellbeing of its residents by offering housing in an environment designed specifically for the needs of its residents. We regularly have people coming to us whose needs are being met during transition. Missions united residents are guided and nurtured through those transitions, lessening the hardship and crisis for themselves and their families. Financial security is being provided to the residents of the community by offering quality services to residents at the lowest possible cost. Missions united has adopted a policy, set forth in the residency agreement, providing financial assistance to residents who become unable to pay their monthly service fee or other charges. No residents have been, or ever will be, discharged because of an inability to pay. Existing resident deposits are available to assure such financial assistance will be available. The average deposit on a missions united apartment at december 31, 2016 was $110,555. This is more than 55 percent lower than the 2015 average single family homes sale in yellowstone county of $251,445 (according to realestatemontana. Com). Missions united, inc. Contracts for and provides access to a continuum of long-term care services available to elderly residents of middle class financial means. A long-term care benefit is offered to all independent living residents to assist in preserving financial security. The benefit provides $500 per month for three years if transition occurs to assisted living and $750 per month for two years if transition occurs to skilled nursing services. During 2016, 16 residents who required either assisted living or skilled nursing care received $49,533. 50 in long-term care benefits. From date of inception (1998), residents have received $1,658,784. 45 in long-term care benefits. Missions united is first and foremost a christian community.
