Mission: The mission of minnesota quilters, inc, is to further the preservation of quilting, to educate, and to document the art and craft of quilting in minnesota. Mq holds the largest annual quilt show and conference in minnesota.
Programs: Minnesota quilt show and conference: the 39th annual mq show and conference was held at the decc in duluth, mn. Attendance was over 5,000 people over three days. The quilt show featured more than 50 workshops and lectures by nationally recognized teachers, special events, exhibits of hundreds of quilts, including judged and non-judged quilts, challenges, and special exhibits by other groups and one honored "quilter of the year" from minnesota. 90 sponsors and vendors had merchant displays. More than $10,000 worth of donated items, including sewing machines, were given to attendees as door prizes, and cash prizes were awarded to winning quilts.
membership: two meetings each month are open to members and quests and include demonstrations and lectures, programs/workshops, announcements, and show-and-tell. The minnesota quilt project (mqp) identifies and documents quilts with a minnesota connection for historical preservation in a centralized location for publication and display. Small grants for service projects such as "teaching others to quilt" were awarded to several groups, as well as support for public television in outstate minnesota.
education: activities include workshops, demonstrations, and lectures to members and nonmembers that complement membership meetings as well as at stand-alone events. In addition, several special events are held each year such as getaways and retreats offering uninterrupted attention to quilting related activites, road trips, and charitable activities such as quilting for others.
