Mission: M-rets validates the environmental attributes of energy to serve as a trusted centralized gateway to environmental markets.
Programs: Midwest renewable energy tracking system, inc (m -rets) is a non-profit organization headquartered in minneapolis, minnesota. M -rets tracks renewable energy generation located within the state and provincial boundaries of arkansas, illinois, indiana, iowa, kentucky, louisiana, manitoba, minnesota, missouri, mississippi, montana, north dakota, ohio, south dakota, texas, and wisconsin. It also tracks renewable resource credits for the state of wisconsin. Participation in m-rets is voluntary although some states may designate m-rets as the tracking system to be used to meet state renewable energy standards. Any party, including non-generators, such as traders, marketers, and end-use customers may establish an account in the system. Prior to 2011, the responsibility of tracking renewable energy generation was managed by the state of wisconsin and m-rets had no financial activity while the state of wisconsin held the master service agreement with the administrator.
