Mission: Mid-america orthopaedic association education and research fund is organized for the purpose of supporting the educational activities of mid-america orthopaedic association, a related 501(c)6 organization. The mission of the mid-america orthopaedic association is to serve its members through outstanding educational and fellowship opportunities and to provide value-added services, at the annual meeting and throughout the year.
Programs: Traveling fellowship 1. Travel to another institution within the mid-america orthopaedic association 20-state geographic area to learn new techniques/procedures2. Two fellowships awarded up to $5,000 each 3. Two fellowship reimbrusements were done during 2016-2017 fiscal year.
multipurpose resident grants1. Used for residents to: a. Fund travel to another institution to learn new techniques/procedures b. Fund an educational trip abroad c. Fund a research project at their home institution2. Three grants awarded at $4,000 each (three 2017-2018 awards paid during 2016-2017 fiscal year)
education to attend maoa 2017 annual meeting. 1. Used for residents/fellows or new in practice orthopedists (first two years of practice) to attend maoa annual meeting2. 30-35 grants awarded at $2,000-$2,500 eachnote: 35 grants were awarded at 2017 annual meeting (6 at $2,000; 1 at $2,075; 28 at $2,500; $1,803. 92 total returned from four recipients [funds not used]).
physician in training awards at 2017 annual meeting - 4 awards of $1,000 each. Poster awards at 2017 annual meeting - 2 awards of $500 each. Additional educational activities expenses totaling $9,203 (guest speaker expenses).
