Programs: Michigan virtual university (mvu) serves michigan's k-12 community with quality online instructional services through student learning services, professional learning services, michigan virtual learning research institute and business learning services. Student learning services (sls) offers online learning solutions enabling schools to offer student equal access to diverse online courses. Included within sls is the michigan virtual school (mvs). Mvs was authorized by public act 230 of 2000 and offers in its course catalog over 150 course titles, including 26 world languages, 20 advanced placement courses and 18 electives. Professional learning services provides online learning solutions for educators and the educational community. High quality courses and resources can be accessed through the portal to meet professional development requirements, earn state continuing education clock hours and more. In 2012, the michigan virtual learning research institute was established to expand michigan's capacity to support new learning models, engage in active research to inform new policies in online and blended learning and strengthen the state's infrastructures for sharing best practices. In 2016, mvu's business learning services (formally virtual learning services) was created to offer a variety of solutions to organizations, including career online high school (cohs), custom online learning solutions, technology services and event hosting and planning. During the fiscal year mvu served more than 25,700 k-12 students with online courses and thousands of educators.
