Mission: We strive to ensure access to justice for the most vulnerable members of our community, resulting in not only equity within the legal system, but broader social equity. Map provides free civil legal assistance to low- income persons with an emphasis on homelessness prevention, domestic violence prevention, and assistance in accessing health care, food, and needs-based income programs. Our statewide programs also specifically serve immigrants, farmworkers, and victims of crime.
Programs: In 2017, map handled 19,706 cases and helped 46,190 people. This includes helping 24,765 people with civil legal issues such as family law, evictions, other housing matters, debts, and accessing health care through our local field offices of legal services of south central michigan. Through our statewide programs, we visited 560 migrant labor camps, responded to 399 support requests on immigration issues, handled 4,127 foreclosure cases through our michigan foreclosure prevention project, and had 984,612 users visit our michigan legal help website.
