Causes: Job Training
Mission: The mission of the mexican american opportunity foundation is to provide for the socioeconomic betterment of the greater latino community of california, while preserving the pride, values and heritage of the mexican american culture.
Programs: The calworks program (stages 1,2,3). The calworks stages 2 & 3, and the alternative payment programs are funded by the california department of education. The calworks stage 1 program is funded by the department of public social services. These programs are parental choice programs, i. E. , the parents may choose any one of the following types of child care services: child care center, a licensed before/after school program, licensed family day care home, or the children's relative-grandparent, aunt, or uncle, or even a friend or neighbor. All or most of the alternative payment programs have similar requirements such as: calworks recipients who are on or off cash aid or off low-income may be eligible for child care services for children under the age of 13 if the parent(s)are working and meet income eligibility requirements, seeking employment, attending school, or participating in a gain approved program. The hours of operation depend upon the need of the family. A total of 8,780 children have been served in all of these programs.
the state preschool program. The state preschool program is funded by the california department of education. It offers full-day and half-day services to low income families. Children must be ages 3-5 years old in order to participate in the program. Hours of operation are from 8:30am to 11:30am and from 1:00pm to 4:00pm for half-day services. This program prepares the children for the first day of kindergarten by providing quality instruction. Total number of children served is 3,208.
the headstart program. The headstart program is funded by the department of health and human services through the los angeles county office of education. Like the state preschool program, it offers half-day services to low income families. Children must be ages 3-5 years old in order to participate in the program. Headstart takes the holistic approach and works with the entire family. Parents are an integral part of the day-to-day operations and make crucial decisions related to the program. There are 7 service components that are offered to families: health, nutrition, mental health, education, disabilities, and social services. There were 1,210 children served in the program during the fiscal year ending 06/30/14.
