Mission: Mifa supports the independence of vulnerable seniors and families in crisis through high-impact programs.
Programs: In fy 2017 mifa's four senior programs promoted independence, health, companionship, and dignity through these services: meals on wheels (served 554,162 meals to 3,784 seniors); transit (provided 25,358 trips to medical/doctor's offices, grocery stores and congregate meal sites for 664 seniors); senior companion program (72 companions provided 68,274 hours of companionship and help with daily living activities to 94 clients); long-term care ombudsman (64 voluteers completed 1,673 hours of service, providing advocacy for the care and dignity of 4,585 seniors living in care homes).
mifa 's four family programs provided basic services to prevent homelessness, stabilize families , and encourage independence : emergency services (financial assistance with rent, mortgage, and utility payments for 3,524 households and 11,131 food vouchers for 5,193 families); emergency shelter placement (671 households received mediation services or were connected with emergency shelter); homelessness prevention and rapid rehousing (252 families were connected with permanent, stable housing); and the 24-hour hotline for homeless families (staff screened 5,746 calls representing 5,612 adults and 8,336 children).
