Mission: To revitalize and sustain the menomonee valley for the benefit of the greater milwaukee community.
Programs: Coordination and facilitation activities include organizing public and private stakeholders around projects that positively impact milwaukee's economy, ecology and communities. Work within this category includes management of the business improvement district, which provides programmatic assistance to valley companies related to workforce recruitment and retention, public safety, business services and other initiatives aimed at making the valley an outstanding place to work. In fy17, mvp led several programs to connect students to the wide variety of career paths in the valley, and began a new young women in stem program to connect girls to women working in stem fields in the valley. In addition, mvp gained community and city approvals to create a valley riverwalk district.
outreach and marketing programs include business recruitment and retention activities, economic development, community engagement in design and implementation of major projects, branding, marketing, promotional activities and special events to improve awareness and perception of the menomonee valley and its resources. In fy17, five new businesses opened in the valley while three others expanded, bringing nearly 200 new jobs. The valley garnered much national press for its successful model of economic development and environmental restoration.
in the year ending june 30, 2017, the activities in this category focus entirely on menomonee valley - from the ground up, a series of projects that connect communities to jobs, environmental education, restored natural resources and new recreational opportunities. Among the successes this year were welcoming 50,000 visitors to three bridges park and the urban ecology center and hosting three bridges park's first urban candlelight hike, which drew 2,000 people. Park signage and a donor sculpture were installed in the park this year.
