Programs: Family programs -provides mediation for a range of family conflicts:custody/visitation/child support mediation is offered for child custody and guardianship disputes, as well as original and modifications of child support. Cases may be referred from family court, other agencies or self - referred,extended family mediation is offered for elder care and other issues between adult siblings, extended family members for a range of disputes.
antibullying - anti-bullying initiative offers a comprehensive approach to bullying prevention and response that includes 5 components for youth and adults: 1. Olweus bullying prevention program (obpp) is the most researched and best known bullying prevention program available. With over thirty-five years of research and successful implementation all over the world, obpp is a whole school program that has been proven to prevent or reduce bullying through a school setting. Obpp is used at the school, classroom, and individual levels and includes methods to reach out to parents and the community for involvement and support. School administrators, teachers, and other staff are primarily responsible for introducing and implementing the program. These efforts are designed to improve peer relations and make the school a safer and more positive place for students to learn and develop. 2. Anti-bullying youth summit is a free annual conference for students in grades 7 - 12 on bullying prevention and intervention. Workshops are delivered by students and others to highlight the work being done in their communities. The conference is held in october. The upstander award is an annual award presented at the youth summit to recognize the great initiatives that students have engaged in for bullying prevention and intervention. It is awarded in october. 3. Anti-bullying walkathon is an annual community engagement event to raise awareness about bullying prevention and intervention. Information about best practice and resources are provided at the event. 4. Bullying prevention and intervention training and workshops (non-olweus) is available for community groups and schools to learn to identify bullying and strategies to prevent and intervene if they or someone they know is being bullied. These workshops and trainings can be tailored to meet the needs of the group. 5. Bullying consultation and support is available for individuals/families that contact the center with concerns regarding bullying issues.
elder programs - the coalition on elder abuse in dutchess county is a group of individuals and private and public agencies working together to protect elders from abuse, neglect and exploitation and to preserve the quality of their lives. The coalition takes a multi-disciplinary approach to achieving its mission and includes a comprehensive approach to preventing and responding to elder abuse including:convening monthly coalition meetings where agencies and community individuals meet to discuss and take action on elder abuse,educational outreach presentations to civic groups, friendship centers, faith communities, workplace settings, housing staff and others to learn the signs of elder abuse and community resources that help,trainings for professionals to learn the signs of elder abuse, tactics that abusers use and strategies and resources to help,referral services for those that are affected by elder abuse either as victims or concerned family, friends and others,world elder abuse awareness day, an international observance each june 15, held locally on the friday prior. Community engagement event attended by more than 150 people to raise awareness about elder abuse. Each year, the event focuses on a specific theme, keynote speaker and participants explore the theme in discussion groups.
