Causes: Homeless & Housing, Housing Development, Construction & Management
Mission: Mckees rocks community development corporation ("mrcdc") was formed in 2000 for the purpose of: (1) promoting real estate development in the borough of mckees rocks (the "borough"); (2) provide direction and assistance in the commercial revitalization of the borough by attracting new business to the community and growing existing businesses; (3) encourage home ownership through development of new housing and establishing programs to update existing dwellings; and (4) initiate programs that encourage the development and implementation of cultural, educational, recreational and transportation initiatives that enhance the quality of life for community residents.
Programs: 1. Continued development of the vacant roxian theater towards its reuseas a concert venue and catalyst for overall development of downtownmckees rocks (lower chartiers avenue). 2. Continued development of adetailed plan for restoring chartiers avenue to a vibrant retail,restaurant, arts and entertainment destination, including collaboratingwith the municipality and pennsylvania department of transportation onrestoring bi-directional traffic flow and improving pedestrian accessto businesses. 3. Engaged private developers, economic developmentconsultants and government entitites around reuse and developmentstrategies for vacant, historic 'anchor' buildings on chartiers avenue.
