Causes: Food, Food Banks & Pantries
Mission: The mccook pantry is an ecumenical community organization sponsored by the ministerial association and housed in the canterbury house of st. Alban's church. As a source of emergency help with food supplies, it has been serving the people of southwest nebraska and northwest kansas since 1980. A staff of committed volunteers serves the public and keeps the shelves stocked. The pantry hours are 1:00 to 4:00 p. M. Monday through friday. Our support comes from the community of mccook and the surrounding area. Churches, service organizations and individuals are generous contributors of food and/or cash with which needed food can be purchased to be given out.
Programs: During 2017, using the guidelines of coming to the pantry only one time per month, 3,156 families, comprised of 11,515 individuals were served. We require, per rule from the state of nebraska, that each family unit needing assistance sign in, date and provide the number of members in the house needing food. 28,813 pounds of food was purchased.
