I attended ACA camps for many years as a child, so I know how enriching the experience summer camp can be. The campers that are given this experience through our grants, are changed in a substantial and positive way. The letters from their parents expressing gratitude to the Foundation, tell of children who have made huge leaps forward in personal growth. It makes me choke-up every year when these moving, emotional letters are read. We work hard to send as many kids to camp as possible, limited only by the amount of donations we receive.
In addition, the Foundation is extremely careful with donated funds. No salaries are paid to any Foundation person, donated monies are conservatively invested, administrative expenses are very limited and comprise less than 10% of revenues, and we have no assets other than our checking and brokerage accounts. The Board members have a wide range of skills, including camp directors, former camp counselors, school teachers, a bank manager, and a CPA. We budget 80% of our prior year income to current year campership grants. Any remaining profit is added to our endowment funds and Foundation reserves. We watch every penny.
